Tanzania - Katavi National Park
June 29, 2003
We broke camp in mid-morning. It is an overcast day, but we don’t expect rain. We made a quick stop to see if the python is still in the tree. It is, but has moved further up. As we are all milling about, the the park rangers show up. I thought we were going to get in trouble for being out of our vehicle, but Eddie knows how to handle the situation and everything is cool.
We must go back to park headquarters to pay the park fees, which we didn’t do when we first arrived at Katavi because of the amount of time it would have taken. Extensive paperwork needs to be completed for each person in our party, and it will take a couple hours. We are going to stay another two nights in Katavi, but at a different campsite called Ikuu, or “Big Tree,” because of a very large fig tree that is situated at the camp.
