March 12, 2006 - Delhi (Third Time Around)
What a miserable night I had on the train. I was in so much pain, and every bump intensified my agony even more. I was never so relieved as when we pulled into the Delhi train station! It was still dark at the wee morning hour we arrived. But, even at this time of morning, the station was packed.
In spite of my broken rib, I grabbed my backpack and did the best I could to hoist it over my shoulders onto my back. The pain was horrendous, but somehow I managed. It was then that I noticed Chandra had hired a porter to carry his suitcase—on his head! I was about ready to blow my top, but somehow ended up keeping my cool. I knew that once we were at our Delhi hotel Chandra would be leaving us. It was obvious, however, that he had already “checked out” mentally.
At the train station we wove our way through the hordes of people and finally exited onto the street. Since it was early and still dark outside, there were many people sleeping on the sidewalk, i.e., their homes. We finally reached several cars, our transport to the Hotel Swati Deluxe, the same hotel we stayed in two and a half weeks ago.
